It's discomforting music, which is both its strength and its weakness. But so long as I regard it as satire, or social commentary, I have to admit I dig on its eccentricity.

Not that I have any desire to hang out with Morissey or anything....Holly A Hugheshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17828633442418722187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36596203.post-56968489490855023392011-12-09T20:35:08.008-08:002011-12-09T20:35:08.008-08:00My dad, who died in 1992 at age 62, tolerated my t...My dad, who died in 1992 at age 62, tolerated my teen-aged musical whimsies, never complaining about Costello and Squeeze and GP and Springsteen and Joe Jackson et al. My Coltrane phase may have frayed his patience, but he abided. I think he actually appreciated Tom Waits. BUT WHEN I PLAYED THIS SMITHS SONG he asked me: "Do you really like this stuff?" and I must admit, he had a point. When I hear the Smiths now, I ask myself, "Do I really like this stuff?" and I'm not quite sure I do.dantehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07471396727977954306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36596203.post-31076908822089551052011-11-14T14:14:47.851-08:002011-11-14T14:14:47.851-08:00I'm looking forward to the ride!I'm looking forward to the ride!Holly A Hugheshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17828633442418722187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36596203.post-91336796933928318052011-11-14T07:42:53.876-08:002011-11-14T07:42:53.876-08:00You are in for a treat. Funny you started delving into their albums by picking the last one (IMO their worst, which still ain't bad!)and moving reverse-chronologically. I would "rank" them as follows:

The Debut
The Queen Is Dead
Hatfull Of Hollow
Meat Is Murder (just 'cause it gets a little preachy)
Louder than Bombs
Strangeways

Have fun!Uncle Ehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04570327775449916376noreply@blogger.com
