I bought the "Ole Tarantula album at Robyn's gig last Saturday night in Portland, Oregon. (I also think the title track is very catchy, and it was really well-done live.) Sean Nelson opened for him. If anyone reading this can catch one of Robyn's gigs while Sean Nelson is part of the mix, please do! (Well, catch a gig anyhow, but you're in for a special treat if Sean is performing, too.) I didn't realize it at the time, but Sean sings harmony vocals on the "Ole Tarantula" album, which was recorded in Seattle. He's great on his own, and great as "the 5th member of the Venus 3", as he puts it.
This was my first taste of Robyn Hitchcock (your kind friend told me about the gig, otherwise I would have missed it!) He is great! And his comments between the songs are fabulous! The first encore was "She Said", the Beatles song. Wonderful. All of it was wonderful. (Loud, though. Earplugs might be advised, at times!) I'm glad you have done a blog entry on Robyn Hitchcock. Thanks.

emmsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36596203.post-60773051763139331942007-04-10T12:37:00.000-07:002007-04-10T12:37:00.000-07:00I believe I read somewhere that YepRoc plans to re...I believe I read somewhere that YepRoc plans to reissue some of RH's out-of-print albums this fall. I don't know whether it's Soft Boys material or later stuff, though.

It's all good. I just entered an eBay bid on a CD of "I Often Dream of Trains." The bits they played on the Sundance documentary really intrigued me. I think Underwater Moonlight may be the best RH recording--although there is plenty of stuff that I have yet to hear and that is not currently available.

--Dave K.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36596203.post-73299237101339888802007-04-10T08:24:00.000-07:002007-04-10T08:24:00.000-07:00Yes, he sings those songs better than Bob does! :...Yes, he sings those songs better than Bob does! :-PHolly A Hugheshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17828633442418722187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36596203.post-12328449397839506342007-04-10T08:14:00.000-07:002007-04-10T08:14:00.000-07:00Check out his Dylan covers album!!!!Check out his Dylan covers album!!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
